Bee, thank you for this wonderful tribute to pigeons, though my heart breaks for how our species' greed for power continually thrusts humans as well as other-than-humans into the horrors of war. It does bring me joy however to know that the Hedgehermitage has its own flock of well loved and well fed pigeons.

Thank you so much, Jan. The hedgehermitage everyday angels make me happy every day. And yes, I agree that any writing involving war is threaded through with heartbreak, and even moreso thinking about the ways in which we involve other-than-human beings, but it also feels right to acknowledge them. I will give our little flock an extra scoop of seed today in gratitude.

Thank you so much, Imogen, and thank you for coming to the vigil tonight. It did feel so beautiful! And yes, your feelings no doubt echo my own in writing this piece. There is so much more to say but I just decided to sit with being amazed by pigeons for a bit instead. I have A LOT of pigeon books to read. And then there's the eels!!
